Words with Effect

From the conclusion of today’s reading:

Samuel grew up, and the LORD was with him,
not permitting any word of his to be without effect.

There is something important for ministers to note, it seems: the effectiveness of words is not contingent on the presence of the Lord in a formal sense.  That is to say, there are plenty of words that are effective in destroying faith rather than building up; yet at the same time, the truly effective words come from the Lord being present.

Something to ponder as another semester begins…
