“And from that day on, the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David.”
The idea of the Spirit rushing upon David is a potent one: this is the same Spirit which hovered over the waters at the creation of the world, bringing order out of chaos.
It is the same Spirit that parted the Red Sea so that Moses and God’s people could pass dry shod, as well as the same Spirit that let the waters flow back upon Pharaoh, his chariots, and charioteers.
And it is the same Spirit that rushes upon us.
Yet, how often do we rush in another direction: through prayers, to judgment, past people.
Today, we ask for Saint Agnes, who rushed toward only one thing, witness regardless of cost, to pray for us and with us, that when the Spirit of the Lord rushes upon us, we take the time to let it effect our lives.
