A (not-so) Surprising Silence from the Mainstream Media

Media reality-check du jour:

Here’s a great post by the ever-pithy The Anchoress (aka author Elizabeth Scalia) on the surprising (and underreported) invasion of the FCC into the mainstream media.

It’s no shocker to find out that the mainstream media is an increasingly unreliable source of news and information, but the fact that a column in the Wall Street Journal by Ajit Pai (a commissioner for the FCC) receives little national coverage is further motivation to find other means of info-seeking.

Yuckiest quote:

” Last May the FCC proposed an initiative to thrust the federal government into newsrooms across the country. With its “Multi-Market Study of Critical Information Needs,” or CIN, the agency plans to send researchers to grill reporters, editors and station owners about how they decide which stories to run. A field test in Columbia, S.C., is scheduled to begin this spring.”
